Going to work i suddenly realized that those big chimneys was blowing smoke, straight up! I actually do not remember seeing chimneys blow almost straight smoke. As a HDR photographer, i instinctively thought: NO WIND!

This image is completely kept in 32bit mode and Photomatix has not been used. I used exposure and levels, since the curve tool do not work in 32bit mode. Everything looked so fine until i saved a 8bit jpg. Going from 32bit (floating-point) down to 8bit integer, really had an impact on the colors. I learned something with this image.

The next week i am going to visit New York, so im a bit more off line than usually but i will try to find someway of getting online.

The overall tone you've applied is very appealing.

I really like all the textures - the smoke that intermingles with the clouds and the fringe of tree branches that frame the reflecting water. You've captured a cold but still feeling.

that's what it's all about isn't it - learning something with the photos. wishing you a great trip.

It looks so c-c-c-cold. I like the photo, despite needing a cup of warm tea after looking at it.

The effect works for me Bo, have a great trip.

Thanks all. Im really looking forward to visiting New York.
Every minute not spent site seeing or taking pictures, is going to be spent writing some plugins for my moveable type installation. I have a few ideas. The flight time is going to be spent on a new web design for my site :)

Beautiful shot, great colors and composition.

John Maslowski on April 24, 2008 15:42

Like this one very much Bo. I'm assuming you used Photomatix or CS3 to merge the images to 32bit but didn't use the tonemapping. Then used CS3 for image adjustments exposure, levels, etc. This technique works great on certain images like this one here. Excellent job and beautiful composition. Have fun in New York, lots to do and see there.

Is it me or do the hdr images have more of a glow or shine to them? Anyway terrific color and I like that the smoke and clouds are at cross purposes, : )

Bo on April 24, 2008 16:20

@John: Correct :) Photomatix for merge and everything else done with Photoshop tools.

The smoke doesn't disturb in this picture the peaceful floating of a leisure boat.

Awesome photo!

Love the surrealistic look to the smoke and the touch the post production work had on the lighting.

I'd love to post some of your work on 1lens2many Blog.

Nice sky and smoke. I have note to composition, the boat should be whole inside or outside imho...

Astrid on April 27, 2008 09:57
