This is one of the rooms at the American Museum of Natural History. Its a huge place with lots of different exhibitions. The American Museum of Natural History houses the most versatile and time consuming exhibitions i have ever seen. There are some many rooms with such a diversity of information that you could easily make a visit span several days. This is the Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life where they have a full-size model of a Blue Whale hanging from the ceiling. If you are visiting Manhattan, New York and its a rainy day, go visit the American Museum of Natural History. Its worth it. btw. you can't use your tripod inside the museum ;)

Full size model of a blue whale ? Man, thats some waste of space!! lol Actually it does help people visualise (esp. children) I like how you've made the best use of the light inside and done without a tripod. Nice.

Very nice work on the interior photo...

I've been here a few times, and I remember Friday nights were free admission... I don't know if that's changed now. It's been a few years.

Looks like a great place to visit. Our son Matthew would find it especially interesting. Beautiful structure, captured from a wonderful vantage point.

Ruprect on May 7, 2008 00:14

Another stunning performance! Were you not allowed to bring your tripod with you?

Cliff on May 7, 2008 00:53

Great picture! How did you keep most of the people sharp? In my attempts they are all blurry ghosts. Hope you enjoyed your time in NY!

Very nice!

I like the various colors that you've captured. With the available lighting, it almost seems like a night time shot.

Was walking by it a couple of weeks ago - did you take any photos of the remodeling? It looks great draped in white. It is a great shot with a lot of detail - I can't imagine carrying a tripod around though :)

Very nice job. I like unusual angles of view.
Very impressive. Do you keep your photos on
www.fortofoto.com or you have better place to keep it on-line? Any suggestions?
Thank you

@Ruprect: You where allowed to bring the tripod inside, but you where not allowed to use it.... plenty of security guards going around ;) I balanced my camera on a rail.

@Sean: I have another shot closer to the head of the whale, where there where more light, but the room was really dark. I don't know why.

Another very good picture, I bet that it didn't look this nice in reality.

Beautiful shot, outstanding details. I especially like the whale and the ceiling pattern. Great tones and composition. Like the wide angle view looking over this room, great job.

bilderiet on May 7, 2008 20:19

Great colors and I like that the whale kind of comes "swimming" into picture. I dont feel that the ghosts disturb at all.
I guess the shot must been quite tricky without the tripod :)

Really awesome! The angle you chose accentuates the feeling of diving inside the museum. Great job!

Thanks all.
I really enjoyed my vacation in Manhattan, New York. Almost got a back pain from carrying my tripod and lenses around, but it was worth it :)
