This giant momument is created by William Dahlerup and F. E. Ring. There's an inscription on and it reads: "Ivar Huitfeldt and his men, Kjøgebugt 4th october 1710."

On this date in the Great Northern War (1700-1721), the ship Dannebroge as Huitfeldt (1665-1710) was head of, was set on fire during a skirmish with the Swedes. He ordered to continue the fight and did not stop until his ship "blew" up. Huitfeldt and most of his men died, but the heroic operation saved the Danish fleet.

The monument was raised in 1886 and on top, stands the goddess of victory, Victoria.

Nice composition! The b/w emphasizes the great contrast of the clouds. Seems as if they are circulating around the monument.
Also the bench with the people give a good contrast to the light way. Excellent eye here!

What a great wide angle shot--the sky is so sweeping and the statue is a nice line/point contrast. Great picture.

Great 'conversation' going on between the statue and the couple! A grand panorama, wonderful.

michele on May 15, 2008 02:50

lovely composition. and such a peaceful setting for something commemorating warriors and a difficult battle.

I like HDRi in b&w. Good composition - dramatic sky, the people in the foreground and harmonic sharpness, well done Bo!

The clarity of this is amazing! I love all the detail in the monument and trees. And you can see clearly so far into the distance - wow!

Jan Erik Moström on May 15, 2008 07:27

Very nice, I think that the use of B&W really make this photo. (and I of course know nothing about the battle :)

Oeilonirique on May 15, 2008 07:52

I like the way you turn landscape pictures into dramatic scenes like this one.

Radel on May 15, 2008 08:35

Great story to go with this lovely monument. I like the B&W giving it an old feel and the clouds are fabulous!

Love B&W work, it looks almost like IR.

Jonas on May 15, 2008 16:16

The clouds look as if turning around the goddess statue, making it all a great composition. Great job!

Denis on May 15, 2008 16:25

Surprising black and white treatment. Reminds me my red filter of former times... that was during the end of he sixties... No, I must be dreaming. I can't be that old !

The goddess looks like an angel and the dramatic sky is the perfect background. Like the B&W brings out great details and contrasts, nice one.

Oswegan on May 15, 2008 20:44

Great detail and bw treatment. The trees almost look infrared.

standley on May 15, 2008 22:16

Wonderful composition and conversion. The sky is fabulous!

Jim on May 15, 2008 22:55

Have to agree that the sky makes the shot special. The overall neutral tones work well here.

Sean on May 16, 2008 03:27

What an expansive shot. I like the bit of drama that the clouds add to the scene.

une scène bien composée avec de nombreux contrastes de matières. Le B&W est très réussi

Tom Sheehan on May 17, 2008 03:23

A very pleasing photo. I like the richness of the clouds, and the people sitting on the bench in the lower left. It adds that small human element to an already nice panoramic photo. :)

Andy on May 17, 2008 16:50

I really like how dramatic the sky looks in this photo. Nice job.

ROB on May 18, 2008 09:07

Love that sky and all the way down on the bottom edge those seated looking in.

crash on May 18, 2008 16:29

that statue looks so out of place ... it contrasts with that new building on the left ... a bit of sci-fi

Andriy on May 20, 2008 23:40

A lot of depth and air in this image. Very nice.
