It took us about 20 minutes from standing on the street, to reach the top of Empire State Building. We where there early. It was a beautiful day and the view from the Empire State Building, is truly amazing. You're not allowed to bring your tripod to the top of Empire State Building, you have to leave it at the security check. I wanted this shot to have some "fuzziness" in the white part of the blue sky. I shot this at ISO 800 to have more digital noise and i used the distance setting on my lens to prefocus it. My favorite building is down on the right and having a triangular shape. Its called: Flatiron

Camera: Nikon D200
Focal length: 27mm
Aperture: f/22
Exposures: 7

Hi Bo, so what i read, it was a challenge for you without a tripod, but even so a good job. I like the brightness in the horizont. I stay 1998 in NYC, a very interesting city.

jo on May 13, 2008 01:08

A special glow to this shot, and a feast of buildings to peruse. A certain calming airiness too.

Martin on May 13, 2008 01:21

That is an extremely clear day by NYC standards. Nice work!

Amazing! I love your shots but this is just wonderful.. great hdr, one of the best I've seen so far, a lot of detail.. wow!

Nice shot of NYC - I like the flatiron but my favorite has to be the Chrysler building both have a great photo history as you probably know (Steichen's Flatiron and Bourke-White on the Chrysler - literally.)

Jeff T on May 13, 2008 06:16

Wow, I haven't been to NY since I was a kid - I sure would like to go to the top too. Wonderful photo - nice job capturing an amazing city. (it's a shame you can't bring your tripod up there for a cool night shot)

Rasmus on May 13, 2008 06:56

Nice view, i was in NY last year and went up there in the evening.. a completely different view. Really like the toning of the image!

Lunamania on May 13, 2008 08:01

Nice capture--I agree with you that the Flatiron building is nice, but I also love the gold gleam of the Southern District of NY court house. Great work.

Csaba/EyeVision on May 13, 2008 08:49

Truly amazing scene from the top. The size of the urban jungle can be felt from this height and it looks HUGE. Nice image and that building is really interesting.
Regards.

Stunning View, Great Job

Niels on May 13, 2008 09:15

Looks almost CGI, great job!

Cliff on May 13, 2008 12:08

Hi Bo,

amazing colours. Nice view from top of the building. So you managed the challenge to photograph without tripod once again excellently.
Though to me it might have been better with a little more buildings in the crop. The black dominant building in the front seems to be cut off.
Nevertheless great shot! I want to travel to NY too :)

The white trails in the sky, the river, the streets, all these converging to the same point in the infinite. Beautiful job, indeed.

Ruprect on May 13, 2008 14:32

WOW .. Bo, once more you amaze me and my fellow visitors.

Radel on May 13, 2008 14:35

sherri on May 13, 2008 16:05

I've only seen NYC from the air. It's amazing as is your photo.

yz on May 13, 2008 16:35

Spectacular. I like the softness of the image and the slight desaturated colors. Quite the opposite of today's trends but that just makes it more outstanding for me.

John Maslowski on May 13, 2008 18:23

Outstanding view, the various architecture of all the buildings is fascinating. Great shot, the details are perfect with basically no distortion. Excellent image.

Great shot! Yeah, I think the Flatiron is pretty close to my favorite. Also, I think those were bassets.

Andy on May 14, 2008 00:39

Great View of the whole City! Nice Job.

Jim on May 14, 2008 01:08

Nice cityscape. I usually head for a high point whenever I visit a city. But every time I've been on top of the Empire State Building it's been foggy or misty. You were fortunate to have such a clear view.

Sean on May 14, 2008 02:44

Simply an amazing shot. Can't get enough of this view.

Justin on May 14, 2008 15:56

what's the deal about the tripods, are they afraid you'll hit somebody? anyways, incredible sight up the river...what a surreal human creation the city is!
