Mineral forming environments is one of the exhibitions at the American Museum Of Natural History. Lots of interesting minerals to look at, and read about. My son took about 140 photographs of the minerals, because of how they shined.
Security was scattered all over the museum, so i could not use my tripod. Balanced my camera on a rail and shot at ISO400 - hoping for the best. I have another shot from the museum here: American Museum Of Natural History
Camera: Nikon D200
Focal length: 27mm
Aperture: f/5.6
Exposures: 5
again great work without the tripod. the previous shot is even more commendable. That mineral looks like a bizzare sort of holy stone that people are meant to worship! :p
Hey i didn’t even see it that way, but you are completely correct! It does look like a holy stone.
I like how the blur makes the person reaching for the stone look kind of like an alien. The stillness of the stone and the motion blur is a nice contrast.
like the moving figure - she looks ghostly as do the smaller rocks in the cases. this is nice work with limited light.
It looks like the inside of a temple. We liked the way the overhead lamp directs the eye towards the stone. However, we find the nearest light distracting and would have cropped it out.
I loved the previous one too…very colorful. The moving lady gives this photo an eerie effect. I missed it last time I was in NYC…hope to make it this time. Good one!
impressive!
Nice one, I’m reading Deception point or in dainsh “Morderisk bedrag” by Dan Brown. And this could easily be what they pulled out of the ice. .-)
My only wish here is that you would identify the material of the object (holy stone). The photo is competent as usual. I laugh with Michele and Ankush who see the blurred figure(s) as a woman while I see them both as males.
Nice shot! I like how some of the people are blurred it makes it more mysterious. Almost looks like another world!
@Claus Pedersen: Is the book good ?
For some reason it reminds me of the monolith on 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Interesting picture, I enjoy visiting museums. Great capture, love the colors and composition.
Bo, fine work .. it’s always a pleasure to visit your blog.
Great shot. I can see that the whole are was too dark and it must have been difficult to take pictures without a tripod.
But, you did it!!
It looks like the blurry person is also taking a picture - I wonder if you are blurry in their shot (or did you pose nicely?)
Woow, that reminds me the planet I came from!
Seems a hint from “2001, a space odyssey” This one is blue…
looks like a really cool place.
I really like the slow shutter speed and colors. Museums can provide great photo scenes, this one is very nice. Great job holding the camera in low light, it’s not easy.
