I have walked around Kastellet many times, but never before seen this weather thermometer. A weather thermometer is one of the most basic of all weather instruments. A weather thermometer measures heat, the heat of the atmosphere.

Where you put the weather thermometers is important and i do not think this weather thermometer is correctly placed.

Camera: Nikon D200
Focal length: 36mm

Your photos have an incredible look. You must have some special recipe for the photos. I’ll have to check back. Nice stuff!

You likely speak the truth! HDR sure works well for the murky gray skies.

In all my art history classes, we would study composition of course, and how elements would lead one’s eye throughout the piece. This seems to be a good study of just that. The building on the left leads to the building in the foreground, up to the thermometer-in-subject, upward toward the lamp and back into the sky. Well done.

Great capture. Seems like it is oddly placed.

I can only agree with the first comment. What I especially appreciate is the details and especially in this photo.

The composition is nice! :-)

I like the color and texture of the walls. I like the composition with the elements you chose to include. Nicely done.

Great shot! i like the composition and colors in this one.

capture it, share it! on April 16, 2008 18:29

I don’t know much about HDR photography, but atleast I know you do it very well :)

For the frame and crops as I read previous comments it seems you don’t like cropping. In this shot I’m wondering why you just did not turn up and left your camera to capture whole light bulb and push out the window?

As it’s not a moving object, I think you had enough time ;)

I really like your photographs, they are very different ones. Good luck!

This is a masterpiece! Excellent colors and composition. Truly an amazing production.

Beautiful color, structure, angle and sky….Great!!

Bo on April 16, 2008 20:58

@Capture it: True, true i had plenty of time :) I actually wanted the window to be there, so the viewer would know that the the building was the same structure as the other, otherwise it could have been a wall and not a house. I framed so the vertical line would divide the frame in two half’s and the roof of the faraway building would hit at the 1/3 lower half.

Oswegan on April 16, 2008 21:54

Should it be at another height? It certainly is a cool looking weather thermometer, and it looks like you were out on a cold day. Nice image.

p.s. your cookie setter for personal info doesn’t seem to work, has anyone else experienced this?

Bo on April 17, 2008 06:58

@Oswegan: Thanks for pointing the problem with the cookie setter out, i look into it. Update: The cookie setter should work now :)

The texture in this is great!

John Maslowski on April 17, 2008 13:19

Excellent composition, Bo. The vertical line definitely captures your attention and leads you into this image. Great HDRI work, details are amazing. I’m asking a question, do you thing the vertical line should have been more off center?

Martin on April 17, 2008 15:02

Great diagonals to partition the shot and very nice lighting. I also like the clear focal point and the window just peeking into the frame on the right to add mystery. However, the cut-off lamp seems a little unbalanced to me. I’d either crop off more of it to make it look intentional or leave all of it in the frame. Just my $0.02, of course.

I always read other comments before posting mine. This time I wish I hadn’t seen some of them. When your site opened I really liked the image, and still do. I read what you wrote and I don’t know where a thermometer should be hung and was trying to figure out what the temperature is. I have a personal goal to never crop images too and it’s a rare occasion when I have to although I do resize them smaller than you and I have a special reason for the, but that’s another subject:-) Structures are my favorite category and I really like these. The colors are nice and soft:-)

Love the subtle tones and the clarity of this shot.

The colours are great and viewpoint is very informative.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I know they will be in the back of my mind, next time im out shooting. There was many ways to shoot this pictures, did i shot it right ? I really don’t know, but i know i shot something that i like :) My main interest in the picture was the lines running vertical and on the roof top. They fascinated me. I wish i had taken some art classes ;)

astrid on April 17, 2008 20:30

Love the tones, this is a very nice composition.

Tom Sheehan on April 17, 2008 22:13
